Who Is Eligible for Citizenship?

You must be at least 18 years of age, a lawful permanent resident of the United States, and meet the requirements for naturalization. You must have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years and you must have been physically present in the country for at least 30 months of those 5 years.

You must also demonstrate good moral character, pass the naturalization interview, and pass the English and civics test. You must also be willing to take the oath of allegiance.

What Is the Naturalization Interview?

The naturalization interview is the final step in the naturalization process. The USCIS officer will ask questions about your eligibility and your application. You will also be asked questions about your understanding of the English language and your knowledge of civics. You will be asked 10 questions, and you must answer 6 questions correctly.

If you pass the naturalization interview, you will be scheduled for the naturalization test.

What Is the Naturalization Test?

The naturalization test is a civics test that will be administered by the USCIS officer. The test consists of 10 questions that you must answer correctly. You must answer 6 questions correctly to pass the test. The test covers basic civics topics such as:

  • Who is in charge of the executive branch?
  • Who is in charge of the legislative branch?
  • What is the name of the President of the United States?
  • Who is the Vice President of the United States?
  • What is the name of the United States capital?
  • What is the Constitution?
  • What is the purpose of the Constitution?
  • What are the 3 branches of government?
  • What are the 2 parts of the Constitution?

How Long Does the Process Take?

If you have already gone through the process, you can expect the process to take between 12 and 14 months. The process can be much quicker if you have a pending application. If you do not have a pending application, you may have to wait a few months for an appointment.

You must also be prepared to spend at least 3 hours at the interview.

How Much Does Citizenship Cost?

The cost of the citizenship application is $640. You will also have to pay the USCIS application processing fee which is $750. The filing fee for your application will be $640. You will also have to pay for your biometrics fee, which is $85. If you need to hire an attorney, you will have to pay their fee.
